Naomi Johnson

Hi, my name is Naomi, I'm a Virgo and I enjoy romantic candle-lit dinners, long walks on the beach, pina coladas, and getting caught in the rain.

Just kidding. Although I really am a Virgo, what I actually enjoy most is putting on a backpack and taking off for some godforsaken third-world place (Last trip: India. Next trip: Tibet.). I'm lucky to have hooked up with my husband, Todd, who suffers from an equally debilitating case of wanderlust. We've just about decided to never have children, to wander the world for the rest of our days, bearing laptops and cameras, immersed in wonder.

Somehow, though, in spite of our best intentions, we find ourselves homeowners in Colorado, making mortgage payments. I pay my half of the bills as a social worker (which I love because of all the kooky characters you get to meet, and hate because, you know, it's a job), and I write as much as possible on the side. I also fantasize about being a documentary filmmaker, a photojournalist, and a yoga instructor.

Always there's this tension between desire and necessity.

What else?

I hate team sports with all my heart. God help anyone who tries to get me into a friendly volleyball game at the staff picnic.

Animals love me. Once, in Peru, a tiny baby black lamb jumped into my arms bleating madly. Maybe this is some kind of bad cosmic joke about being a black sheep.

I second-guess myself a lot. I mean A LOT. I'm doing it right now.

I hate to talk about myself, but, as you can see, once I get rolling, I get pretty into it.

You can reach me at bluejay@frontier.net.
